RACISM VS FAMILY.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO TACKLE RACISM AND SOLITUDE AT THE EXPENSE OF FAMILY DIVISION?
I am not accustomed to write publicly about personal reactions to social media. Today, however, I feel I would betray myself and the world if I do not write about how I felt when I saw Meghan and Harry’s interview with Oprah.
Rather than writing about my personal concerns or feelings the aim of this post is to raise constructive reflections.
In a post by the Telegraph Patti Davis is quoted saying:
“There is nowhere you can go to escape the opinions, the criticism and the threats from hordes of people who you will never meet…They have no idea what it is like to walk in their shoes.”
And this is is relevant why?
In the recent Oprah Winfrey interview with the Sussex Royals about their experience with the Royal Family Meghan’s words included:
“And also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he is born.”
What can you make out of this?
I will tell you what I think. I think we are seeing conflicts between race and family. Now, this is what I want you to reflect on.
Can racism be sanely eliminated with public attacks on family members?
What is racism if not an injustice, what is criticism behind one’s backs if not an injustice?
I felt extremely sad with both, the Royals and Oprah when I saw the interview. What are they trying to accomplish?
Is it reasonable to tackle an injustice from an injustice? Is it fair to talk about racism, solitude, suicide, incomprehension, social-media attacks, when one is precisely using the same medium, in this case, social-media and global broadcasting, to tackle the issue? Is it fair?
Is it fair for the Sussex to say that their situation “is different” because back in time the Royals where not exposed to social media? What are they doing, precisely talking about how they feel about their OWN family, behind their backs, using precisely SOCIAL MEDIA and public broadcasting? Are they not creating the same effect they complain so much about?
Is it fair to say they feel attacked by attacking? Is it fair to talk about an injustice, in this case the feelings about racism and lack of comprehension by causing more sadness to the ones who are closest to them?
We are all humans, we all have feelings and emotions and we all have the right to express ourselves and fight to create a better world. My only question is, how do you create a better world?
I personally do not believe you create a better world by attacking others. Meghan and Harry may have felt alone, anxious, sad and misunderstood, but is it fair to deal with those feelings by creating them to others? Is it fair to talk about their family, the queen at her age and her husband and their family members in that way? Using precisely what they have complained about, social media? Will racism be eradicated in that way? Does this not leave a feeling of division? Are suicide thoughts not caused by loneliness and lack of love or purpose? Is racism not linked to incomprehension?

Don’t you think it would have been beautiful to learn about racism, loneliness and the horrible effects of social media from a stand-point of unity instead of disunity? Are not strong, loved, unified families examples of joy and love? Of prosperity? How can racism and solitude be eradicated through family division?
Unity and Love. Not division and Criticism.
